Festival of Colors

On Saturday, I went to the Festival of Colors in Spanish Fork with Amy and some of her friends from Helaman Halls. The Festival of Colors is this “fundraiser” for an Indian church at their temple in Spanish Fork. They invite all of the BYU, UVU, and U of U students to come and participate in throwing these bags full of, pretty much, ground up chalk that you buy. So, we all got in our least favorite pair of jeans and a white-tee and headed over to the temple.

We got to listen to some pretty awesome Indi music and chanted this saying that I still am not sure on the meaning of (Hawsh Krishna got very boring very quickly) and then we were told the story about the evil witch who use to burn babies so they have the festival to burn a likeness of the witch made out of sticks and then throw the colors in a celebration of peace.

When we threw the colors, I literally couldn't see anything around me. It was a huge cloud of colors and it smelled wretched, but it was pretty cool looking. And then we were all covered in powder.

We tried to clean ourselves off as best we could before getting into the cars, but we still look pretty colorful after the drive back to Provo…

Funny things at BYU

This week, I had some friends visit from Mesa. They’d come up to Utah to visit family for their Spring Break, but came up to Provo for a day to see some friends from high school that are now at BYU, so when they came to see me, I realized some funny things that set BYU apart from other colleges:

1. It seems completely normal to spend your Book of Mormon class watching the BYU game and relating events of the game to the experiences of the Brother of Jared

2. You have nicknames for buildings, like the SWKT, MARB, WILK, etc. instead of just calling them by their names…

3. You can’t go one day without running into someone from Mountain View (my high school in Mesa)

4. You’ve become desensitized to couples trading off their kids while one parent goes to class

5. When someone shows you pictures from their weekend, you find yourself scrolling through 84 pictures

6. You see people laying out in swimsuits when it’s 50 degrees outside

7. You find out your school is going to start a class about how Twilight became so popular even though it isn’t a great piece of literature

Shleb and Stacie come to Provo

This weekend was super exciting because my friends from Blue Sky Bagels, Shelby and Stacie, came to Provo!! They got here on Friday night and we went to Burger’s Supreme for dinner. Then we went and saw Remember Me…we were totally loving the whole movie, but the ending was totally sad, so I haven’t yet decided what kind of rating I want to give it. When they got here, we noticed that there was something…funky going on with my eye…here’s a picture…

This is Day 1….

So anyway, on Saturday, we went to the Harvest Bakery and got some cinnamon rolls. Then we went to Barnes and Noble to look at books (a favorite pass time of Shelby and mine). Then we went to In n’ Out (yes, there was much eating out this weekend) because we were right there and Stacie has never been…so it was a must. Then we hung out at my apartment for a while just chatting and stuff. We were going to go on a tour of campus, but it was snowing and cold outside, so instead…we went to another movie. haha. We went and saw Valentine’s Day and it was super funny!! (though it did give the doctors of Grey’s Anatomy a bad name). I have gained a lot of respect for Taylor Swift since she was on SNL and I gained even more from Valentine’s Day because she was way funny. Anyway, it was good and we really liked it. Then we went and got cupcakes at the Cocoa Bean (which you may remember from my Rexburg trip…they just built one in Provo and it’s so good!!) Then we went to Target and found something that we had to get…The Twilight and New Moon Movie board games…hahaha. For only 15 dollars for both…so we bought them. And they were both pretty pathetic, but we laughed a lot. A LOT!! It was entertaining. Then they sadly left this morning…but it was so fun to have them here for a couple days. Such a fun and not productive weekend :)

Midnight Showing!!

On Thursday night, I went with Jamison, Chase, David, and Ashley to the midnight showing of Alice in Wonderland. I’m not a huge Tim Burton fan, but I really loved how he did Alice in Wonderland. It was totally awesome! I also decided that Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter are like my favorite actors. They were both amazing/always are :)

Also, while we were waiting in the theatre for the movie to start, Ashley pulled out her laptop and we watched A Very Potter Musical…it’s pretty hilarious…I’m just sayin’
